Sixth Form Level 3 Diploma in Childcare

Course: Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator NCFE) 

Why study Childcare?

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners wishing to work in early years education and prepares learners to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of ages 5 to 7.

This qualification offers progression from the Technical Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education, enabling learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years.

Upon achievement of the Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

We have a partnership with Piglets Pre-school, and students will spend two or more hours per day in Piglets doing on-the-job training. Units 13 and 14 will be completed in Piglets and assessed by their work placement mentor. At the end of each of the other units, Piglets will assess their knowledge by using a practical example within the workplace. 

Learning will comprise of 10 lessons, 10 work experience hours and 2 project hours per week.

How will I be assessed?

Observation, discussion, learner log/diary, planned activities and formal assessments are completed throughout the course in addition to one examination. The combination of internal and external assessment means students will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need and then have the opportunity to put this learning into practice.

This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a qualification that is the same level and subject within the Award, Certificate, Diploma structure. 

In order to achieve the Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) learners must achieve a pass grade in the externally set, internally assessed unit assessments for 14 mandatory units. Learners must also achieve a pass grade D or above for the external assessments CCE1 and DCE2 (externally set, externally assessed). Each unit throughout the qualification will be graded A* - D and the overall qualification is graded A* - D.

What are the entry requirements?

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English. Ideally, learners will have studied Childcare at level 2. 

Essential Uniform: Black comfortable trousers or leggings and Piglets/Chessington polo shirt. (you will need 3 minimum). Learners should have a smart and well presented appearance, as the daily schedule includes being public facing. 

Suggested course resources: Textbook, arch lever folder and a student planner/diary. Learners may use their own laptop but school chromebooks will be provided in the lessons as well as completing written work.
